Meg Houghton-Gilmour
Freelance journalist specialising in food and travel // founder and editor of The Bristol Sauce
Hello! I’m Meg, a freelance journalist from Manchester living in Bristol.
My first venture into food writing was a recipe book I co-wrote at the age of ten. It featured truly innovative ideas such as ‘melted Mars bar spread on a Hobnob’ and other culinary curiosities.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, said recipe book was never published, but 20 years later much of my other food writing is. I’m the founder and editor of The Bristol Sauce, a Substack publication with thousands of subscribers.
I'm delighted to have also contributed to a number of national and international publications, including The Observer, The Saigoneer, Manchester Confidentials, Palate Magazine, Everyday Magazine and more. I’m also the in-house food and drink writer for South West publications Nearfield Magazine and The Pony Magazine.
I am currently travelling the world to expand my knowledge of food, drink, culture and restaurants and am in the process of writing a book proposal.
When I’m not eating or writing about it, you’ll find me stroking stray cats in foreign countries or making weird sculptures out of clay.
